Capture your memory

2009

Chelsea College of Art and Design

Short term project

When you visit a place, you carry with you a memory of its color, smell, and texture. I wanted to capture that exact moment with a device that allows you to pour wax onto molds found in the street or sand. By selecting a color that resonates with the location, you can preserve the texture and essence of that place in the wax, creating a tangible memory of the moment.

Capturing the memory of London, in front of the house where I lived for a year, right after stepping out the door. The feeling of that moment was always new, strange, and uncertain. The white represents the emotions of a fresh beginning, marking a new chapter in my life, while the light peach color symbolizes the uncertainty I felt. The bottom layer holds the soil and leaves that lived during my time there, preserving the essence of that moment.

Capture the moment at the heart of Seoul. It's always busy and crowded, and I’m never quite sure what people are thinking as they pass by. Capture the moment at the heart of Seoul. It's always busy and crowded, and I’m never quite sure what people are thinking as they pass by. Sometimes, I feel isolated in the midst of it all. I used pure black to express this sense of isolation

My favorite place in Korea—by the sea. I wanted to capture the moment of the breeze, the sand, and the textures within it, like seaweed and other traces of the ocean. I chose yellow to express the pure brightness and happiness of looking at the sea. Interestingly, it wasn’t sky blue or blue, but yellow that best captured the feeling
